The 2025 MLB regular season is a wrap. Sadly, the current state of expanded playoffs destroyed the drama of pennant races in the American League East and American League Central. Toronto and New York came into the final day of the season tied for first. But who cares? Both already qualified for the playoffs.
Detroit and Cleveland came into the final day tied for first in the Central. Detroit was on the verge of suffering the greatest collapse in Major League history. They had a 15.5 game lead on July 8th. And they would finish the season in second as Cleveland gets the tiebreaker. But who cares? They’ll face each other in the playoffs.
I have some ideas on how to fix the system, but I’ll save that for a future blog post.
The New York Mets ended 2025 the way they started 2024. Horrible. They had the best record in the Majors on June 12, and then went 38-55 to finish out of the playoffs. And now Pete Alonso wants out.
The Colorado Rockies finish the season 43-119, one of the worst in Major League history.
The playoffs are set. Toronto, Seattle, Philadelphia and Milwaukee get a few days of rest.
