Team Rankings
We are at the All-Star break. Four teams appear to be head and shoulders above the rest: The Dodgers, Brewers, Braves and Yankees. Wait a minute, the Yankees aren’t even leading their division. Tampa Bay is in first place. But if you look at run differential, the Yankees are much better than the Rays. The Yankees have a run differential of +91 while the Rays have a run differential of +32. The Rays record is far above what they should be. I expect them to be less lucky in the second half of the season. The Cubs and White Sox are in a fight to be the top team in Chicago. Miami is shocking everyone so far this season. The Pirates have been consistent all season. The Phillies are similar to the Rays. They have a run differential of -10 yet are 11 games over .500. An anomoly of a season so far.

Batting
I don’t think anyone had it in their cards that Washington would have the top offense going into the All-Star break. Or that Pittsburgh would have the second best offense. The Yankees have slipped to third, with the Dodgers and Cubs just behind them. And who would have guessed that Miami and the White Sox would be in the top 10 as well?
Yordan Alvarez continues to remain the best hitter, but James Wood has closed the gap a lot in the last week. Ben Rice is third, followed by Juan Soto and Pete Crow-Armstrong.

Pitching
The Brewers, Dodgers, Yankees, Mariners and Red Sox are my top 5 pitching teams. Detroit, Atlanta, Miami, Toronto and Tampa Bay round out the top 10.
Shohei Ohtani picked the wrong year to concentrate on pitching. Jacob Misiorowski continues to dominate the National League and should be the runaway favorite for the Cy Young at this point. Zack Wheeler is the third best pitcher and he let his feelings get in the way of missing an All-Star game. Maybe he shouldn’t have declined the invitation last year. Two Dodgers, Justin Wrobleski and Yoshinobu Yamamoto round out the top 5.
