NBA Finals
Congratulations to the New York Knicks on becoming the NBA champions for the 2025-26 season. They had a dominating performance in the playoffs, beating Atlanta in the first round after falling behind 2 games to 1, before winning 3 straight games to move on to the second round. They then swept Philadelphia in the second round and followed up with a sweep of Cleveland in the Eastern Conference finals. A 13 game winning streak was finally broken by San Antonio in game 3 of the finals, but the Knicks pulled off the greatest comeback in NBA finals history, overcoming a 29 point deficit to win on a tip-in with 1.2 seconds to play. With Game 5 back in San Antonio, I thought there was a good chance we would at least being seeing a Game 6 back at Madison Square Gardens. And it looked like that would be the case, as San Antonio would have a 16 point lead in the first half, and still had a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter, before the Knicks would mount another comeback to win the series 4 games to 1.
I also want to congratulate the Spurs for knocking off Oklahoma City in the Western Conference finals. Outside of Oklahoma City, nobody wanted to see the Thunder in the finals because of their style of play.
The Spurs are young. I would make them the favorites to win the west again next year, along with Oklahoma City. The Knicks were never the best team in the East this year. Detroit was the best team during the regular season, but I think everybody still thought Boston was the team to beat. But New York got hot right at the end of the regular season and carried that momentum into the playoffs.
