National Championship game recap
Indiana caps off an incredible two year turnaround by winning the CFP National Championship with a hard fought 27-21 win over the Miami Hurricanes. Two years ago, Indiana finished the season 3-9. They were 4-8 in 2022 and 2-10 in 2021. Curt Cignetti got hired after the 2023 season and in two years as the head coach of Indiana, he has gone 27-2.
Miami put up a valiant effort and went toe to toe with Indiana. I thought Indiana would win by a couple touchdowns. The only way I thought Miami could win was for them to play a flawless game with no mistakes and force a few turnovers by Indiana. Miami probably had better NFL talent, but Indiana has played at such a high level all year, that even in a game where they made a few mistakes, it was still enough to hold off the Hurricanes.
Season recap
It looks like the reign of the SEC has definitely come to an end. It’s actually been over for several seasons. First, the portal has allowed players to move around. So SEC schools cannot stockpile the talent like they used to. Now the NIL has changed the game even more. A lot of the schools in the SEC are not keeping up with the Joneses with NIL money. The Big 10 looks like they may be controlling college football for the next decade.
College Football problems
I think we’ll save this for another post. There are a lot of problems with college football. The portal has changed the game. NIL has changed the game. I’m completely fine with both of them. But they both need some serious tweaking. Another thing that needs a complete overhaul is the college football calendar.
But I’ll discuss all this in a future post. We can now close the book on the 2025 college football season.
